Sod Cutting & Reduce Level Dig

The official sod cutting took place on site yesterday 30th January and formally undertaken by pupils from the local Somers Park Primary School which will be sister school to the new Malvern Vale. The article from the Malvern Gazette can be found here.

The site was also featured on BBC Hereford & Worcester's radio programmes through the day.

In reality the diggers are already on site and the groundworks have commenced. As can be seen in the photo below. There is large amount of excavation to reduce the levels on the site and form the foundations for the boundary walls. The foundations are piled due to the nature of the ground and large piling rigs will soon be on site to commence augering the ground for the concrete fill.

Site Setup Commences

Works commenced on Monday 23rd with the initial site setup taking place including the erection of external site fencing and initial excavations.

Unfortunately it is necessary for this fencing to be situated on the pavement on one side of the road. This is due to the external retaining walls which are going to be built on the site boundary requiring sufficient space around them to undertake their construction. Underground services will also need to brought in the site which are currently located on or near the site boundary. The closure is indicated on the plan below.

The fencing is also a health and safety requirement and solid in nature to prevent unwanted access to the site. We would ask that those with children remind them that building sites are not playgrounds and are extremely dangerous.

BuzzsiteGear our health and safety mascot will during the course of the works will no doubt be making a visit to the local primary school to the remind kids of the dangers of construction sites.

http://www.buzzsitegear.com/ By following the link you can access games, downloads and activity packs for children to enjoy.

We would also like to make residents aware of the initially high number of wagon movements that will occur doing the first phase of the works whilst spoil from the excavations is removed and stone/concrete is delivered. Access is limited into the site via a single vehicular entrance but we have asked that deliveries are made via a one-way system to reduce the amount of lorries travelling through the narrow estate roads.

We are sorry for the potential noise and disruption that may occur but the number of deliveries and noise should reduce once the groundwork phase is completed.

SpellerMetcalfe are pleased to announce that will be undertaking the construction of the new Malvern Vale Primary School which will be located alongside Swinyard Road. The school is the First Primary School to be constructed in Malvern in 25 years and as local contractor also based in Malvern it is privilege to be involved in such an exciting new development.

The project is being undertaken a local team.  Worcestershire County Council are financing the works and the design developed by Jacobs based in Worcester Place Partnership also based in Worcester have the role of overseeing the Project Management. The school will be a satellite of Somers Park Primary and will form part of the Mercian Educational Trust.

Throughout the project we will endeavour to minimise impact on the neighbourhood and to make a positive experience for all. The site is registered as part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme https://www.ccscheme.org.uk/ccs-ltd/what-is-the-ccs2/
which is a voluntary programme which aims to improve the image of the construction industry and manage levels of inconvenience to the public to a minimum. More information about the scheme can be found by visiting their website.
